Austin French
Beginning Piano Studies
Austin French graduated summa cum laude from the University of Washington School of Music, earning degrees in Guitar Performance, Music Theory, and Music History. During his time there, Austin honed his skills as an instrumentalist and vocalist, performing in masterclasses, ensembles, and as part of the university’s premier auditioned choir. Beyond academics, he serves as the Executive Director of the Klaus Lendzian Archive, a nonprofit founded to preserve and promote the work of the late Seattle composer Klaus Lendzian.
Austin’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the idea of music as a language. He strives to cultivate holistic musical fluency by focusing on technique, ear training, theory, and literacy, aiming to open as many musical doors as possible for his students. Whether working with young beginners or advanced adults, his tailored approach ensures that every lesson is both engaging and impactful.
Outside the studio, Austin loves experimenting in the kitchen, running and biking, and sight-reading or noodling at his quirky 100-year-old upright piano!
